Why does my knee click n pop when I walk down stairs?
My Kaiser doc and physical therapist haven't really diagnosed what's going on with my knee. So heck - I'll try out yahoo answers. A few weeks ago I sat cross-legged and when I tried to get up there was pain in left leg to the right and below of the patella. In addition to pain every step forward brought a "clunk" or popping feeling in the knee. The doc had x-rays done and she saw only slight osteoarth that should not cause pain she said. She sent me to the PT who gave me a bunch of exercises to strengthen the muscles around the knee. At least I am walking without the clicking. But if I walk down stairs the knee still pops/clicks and hurts, same if I run. And if I try to pivot at all on the left knee - ouch. It's been four weeks. What's happening with my knee?? I'm 45 and in otherwise excellent health.

I agree with "ritish" (hope I got that right). ample amounts of water and calcium play large roles. But in addition, you should also make sure that you are receiving the right kinds of fats in your diet. Avocado, olives, nuts and seeds.

happens to everyone every once in a while. If it is causing you pain or is a canstant thing than you might have grown faster than your what your body can keep upwith making your knees bad.

DONE
mine does this to, & know what i do? i get in dollar stores or drugstore, knee supports, you slip it under your blue jeans, no one will see it, & it really helps, try any dollar store or if you have to pay more, try osco or better yet, walmart, it keeps your knees from coming out when they click, i also use absorbine jr on them at night to sometimes. good luck!!

The clicking in your knee, and the pain, tells you there's rotation in the knee joint (the bones aren't articulating correctly). When you go down stairs your hip muscles, upper leg muscles and lower leg muscles should act together to stabilize your knee to prevent rotation and translation of the bones...This isn't happening at the moment. It's very fixable, very common, but you want to fix it quickly. I recommend a book called "Pain Free." I am not the author, so I'm not trying to sell you on anything...There are exercises (different than PT) that will help.
