When a doctor has to re-break your leg for treatment...why do they keep the patient awake during this process?

Ruby
As a teenager, I had to have my wrist rebroken after it had 'set' wrong. They kept me awake - although I was heavily medicated - and I asked the same question.

It is dangerous to anesthetize someone. It is, in fact, one of the most dangerous part of any surgery. Better to be a little uncomfortable for a short while than to die, or suffer brain damage, right?

?
so you can hear it break again

No. You, as the patient can make sure they do not keep you awake, but I doubt they would even consider that.
