How long does it take for a fractured skulls to heal fully?
I fractured my skull when I was 13 or 14. Five years on, It still feels kinda numb when I gently touch the place that was hurt. I don't have any problems and it never hurts no matter what I do unless I touch the previously fractured area (my forehead). It also feels like there a depression which I guess suggests it hasn't fully healed yet, so I wonder how long is it going to take to fully heal? I should mention that my injury was somewhat bad... I was hit with a brick thrown by someone from a distance. I received all treatment in Pakistan. Could it be that the doctors haven't been able to fix it properly? The doctors here are known to be a bit incompetent... Thanks for your answers!

A depressed skull fracture will still heal, even if it's depressed. The bone starts to knit back together about 6-8 weeks after the break. My daughter had a severely depressed skull fracture, and the Neurologist told her if she wanted the fracture plated (cosmetic reasons only) she had to decide by the 6-8 week mark. She opted not to have the surgery. If you run your fingers along under her hair, you can feel the dents. One of the larger fractures, you can lay your pinkie finger in it. However, it is fully healed. In a depressed skull fracture, as long as none of the pieces of the skull are pressing into the brain, the Surgeons will usually just leave it on it's own to heal. Your Dr probably did the right thing. The dents are normal. Don't worry.
