Damon
can you claim disability for menieres ear disease?

Susan
I don't know how long you've been suffering form Meniere's disease, but there are treatment options available for it if you are not aware. Some are done in-home, some at the doctor's office. I'm willing to assume you've had all of the testing done to document that you truly have Meniere's, that this is not just a verbal conclusion made on examination by your doctor. As for making a disability claim, it will depend on your documentation. We are all at the mercy of whomever is reviewing our paperwork. Keep copies of everything you submit, including the disability form. Should you be denied a hearing, ask for an appeal. At the hearing it will be up to the judge to determine through your documentation and questioning you about your medical history. You will have an opportunity to appeal his decision if it is not favorable. Meniere's disease does not have to be a sentence to life in your home. Do yourself a favor and look into treatment options if you have not yet done so.

You can claim all you want, that doesn't mean you'll get it. A lot of deserving people out there are not reaping the benefits of paying in to SS for years. It's for people who can't do their "usual job" because of disability. Does this sound like you? If it does, then I say to go for it. Just don't be surprised if you get turned down the first time around...or the second time....they don't just toss out benefits to people who *want* them. Be persistent, get doctors' charts, etc....gather up all the information you can about your disease and then present it to SS. That should help you. Fill out the application COMPLETELY cuz if you don't, they'll just put it into the "dead" file and then you will definitely have to appeal. Don't NOT apply just cuz it's a pain in the ass. Again, be persistent. That will help you to get what you're after...not just with SS but with life in general! Good luck to you, my friend. Barb

Lila
the question is, will they award disability for it? maybe. it's so hard to treat and so hard to diagnose.
