what is right ventricular hypertrophy?

Eddie
Ventricular hypertrophy often occurs due to prolonged hypertension. Since the heart has to pump against increased peripheral resistance (the definition of hypertension), it will hypertrophy (meaning the heart muscle will become enlarged). We usually use ace inhibitors which have been proven to prevent this remodeling of this heart when treating the hypertension. However, I'm not sure if you're talking about Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy or hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy. This is not related to hypertension. It depends the age group you're talking about. The athletes that die in the middle of the game die from hypertrhophic obstructive cardiomyopathy. Basically, the have a loose mitral valve leaflet that parachutes into the aortic valve and blocks cardiac output

The right ventricle is the chamber of the heart that pumps blood to the lungs, where the blood picks up oxygen. Hypertrophy is a word that means it increases in size. You may be familiar with a weight lifter having really big muscles - that's because he lifts weights, and the muscles hypertrophy - they get bigger. So right ventricular hypertrophy means that for some reason, the heart is having to work extra hard to pump blood to the lungs. This may be due to some problem with the valves of the heart, or some other problem, that causes the blood pressure to be too high in the lungs.

Just type it in google and I'm willing to bet you'll find tons of info! Be careful on here with medical questions because there are a lot of flakes out in the real world that would tell you anything! Some even practice medicine without education and licensing! Scarey place to be !!!!!!

The kissman
It is an increase in size of the chief vessels of the heart, i.e. the ventricles.
