how long does it take to get heparin out of the body?
I received 2000 units prior to a heart cath procedure.

Jasonzilla
That's not a big dose, and I'm sure you're aware that it's standard for this procedure. If you had a stent put in, it is actually coated with heparin, or some derivative. Half-life for heparin is 30 minutes. If you're on the computer asking this question, obviously it's out of your system. The reason we use heparin for so many things, especially before a cardiac procedure, is because of the short half-life. Shut it off, and it will be out of your system quickly.
