one Sim with ethics!...okay, okay bad pun...i looked it up for you at dictionary.com. here is their definition: "A mixture of dimethyl polysiloxanes and silica gel that is used as an antiflatulent." ...but what the hell are dimethyl polysiloxanes? okay wait....wikipedia offers this definition: Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is the most widely used silicon-based organic polymer, and is particularly known for its unusual rheological (or flow) properties. It is optically clear, and is generally considered to be inert, non-toxic and non-flammable. PDMS has been assigned CAS number 63148-62-9, and is occasionally called dimethicone. It is one of several types of silicone oil. there is more info at www.wikipedia.com. it seemed very involved so basically it is a silicone. i had an Auntie Flatulant. she had silicone breast implants. she was a gas! lol BTW wikipedia is a great source for questions like this.

Simethicone (Gas-X, Mylicon, Phazyme) Defoaming agent used to relieve flatulence. Mixture of dimethyl polysiloxanes and silica gel. Molecular weight between 14,000 and 21,000. Category C which means animal studies have shown an adverse effect and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. OR No animal studies have been conducted and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. I also found more info from a different website that said the following: Simethicone, is an oral antifoaming agent used to reduce bloating, discomfort and pain caused by excess gas in the stomach or intestinal tract. Chemically, simethicone is a mixture of polydimethylsiloxanes that works by reducing the surface tension of gas bubbles, causing them to coalesce into larger bubbles that can be passed more easily by belching or flatulence. Simethicone is not absorbed by the body into the bloodstream, and is therefore considered relatively safe with sources reporting the worst side effects as bloating, constipation, diarrhea, gas and heartburn. It is sometimes mistaken that Simethicone reduces belching or flatulence, but rather it can increase the rate at which gas leaves the digestive tract which could cause an increase in belching and flatulence (this website is the 2nd one under source (s). You were right, it is hard to find out the info on this but hopefully this helps.
