Do wounds heal faster with or without band aids?
I have a large brush burn on my forehead from falling over my dog. It's been oozing and I've been putting neosporin on it. Should I keep it covered with a band aid?

Yes, it will heal faster with a bandage! Wash the wound with soap and water completely to remove any dirt or foreign materials that may cause an infected wound. To keep the wound clean and dry, apply a wound cream or lotion and cover it with a bandage. Without scrubbing, "wash the wound daily" and apply a cream like neoporin an a bandage until it has completely healed. Keep the wound moist at all times with lotion or gel and keep bandage. If necessary, take a pain reliever such as, Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin or other). Follow label instructions. Do not let the wound dry out or scab over.Clean with mild soap and water every day. Keep it moist until well heal. This will heal the wound twice as fast and keep the scaring down. Get immediate medical help if the wound shows signs of infection. Get a tetanus shot, if it's not up-to-date. Check with your doctor. FOR MORE INFORMATION AND VIDEO GO TO:

The purpose of a band aid is more to help prevent the open wound from being infected than it is to actually assist in healing. Your body does all the healing work itself from the inside :) If you're concerned about the oozing, you can use a band aid but make sure you change it often. The "ooze" is actually blood plasma, the fluid that contains platelets (platelets are what cause blood clotting & eventual mending of the broken skin). If the plasma is clear, you're fine & normal. If a band aid is kept on too long, your body fluids will just sit against your skin, keeping it moist. Bacteria loves to live & grow in moist areas. Contracting an infection from a dirty band aid will definitely make the healing process slower! So keep the wound clean & change the band aid often & you'll heal well.

In my experience, they heal faster without a covering--unless the injury is someplace I'm going to keep bumping, catching on things, etc. Then the bandage offers protection.
