Gypsy Rose is dead-on!

Gypsy is right on.

Gypsy Rose
A burn patient is intubated for several reasons. The first and most important reason is that soon after a burn the area is infiltrated with body fluids in an attempt to cool the area and to usher in the workers of the body to help heal. Especially with the face and chest this can cause a collapse of the airway. Therefore, they intubate as a protective measure. If they wait too long, the swelling may become a big problem and intubation may not be possible. Also with a burn along the face and neck, intubation allows the person to be heavily sedated while maintaining his/her airway.
