If he's stage 1, his doctor may choose to put him on watch & wait. In the early stages, CLL is often not treated immediately, especially if specific symptoms are not happening. When it does need to be treated, chemotherapy is the traditional treatment. Monoclonal antibodies are now being used as well, sometimes in conjunction with immunotherapy. Sometimes, radiation is used, for targeted areas of symptoms, such as the lymph nodes or spleen. Relapsed (came back) or refractory (doesn't respond to treatment) CLL might be treated with a stem cell transplant. While CLL does not technically have a cure, it's a very slow progressing disease. People with CLL may hang out in stage 0 or stage 1 for a very long time. Some people are on watch & wait for years before needing treatment. Some people go through some treatment and never end up needing to be treated again, or go years and years before progressing. There's really nothing he can eat that will make him better. However, studies are showing that a chemical in green tea may be beneficial for CLL. I think the studies use pills of high doses, but this may be something to ask his doctor about. Best wishes to your boyfriend. His doctor will be able to give him much less vague answers.

CLL is highly controllable in most cases, but a complete cure is not considered likely. We never actually "cure" high blood pressure or diabetes. There are a number of different treatments used for CLL. He can eat whatever food he likes. No food choices will make a difference one way or the other. Excellent overview from the Mayo Clinic - http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/chronic-lymphocytic-leukemia/DS00565

Chronic ALL is highly curable see link:http://www.leukemia-lymphoma.org/all_page?item_id=12486 He needs to see a hematologist and get his treatment set up. He should be on a balanced diet with as little simple carbs as possible( White sugar--bad) and getting plenty of rest. This is his body putting on the brakes and he needs to use this recovery time to reassess his life and just rest. Check out the web link I gave you, they have tons of info and more links there. http://www.wikipedia.org/ is another great resource you can look up disease info on. Best Wishes
