Possible results of a bone marrow transplant are complete cure of the illness being treated, a partial cure, or death. Death may be caused by complications of the bone marrow transplant or because the transplant did not work to treat the illness. If the transplant works, you can go back to most of your normal activities as soon as you feel well enough. Most times it takes up to 12 months to recover fully. Consult the pediatric oncologist.

We obtain some of our best treatment results using bone marrow transplantation for various types of leukemia, but the original leukemia can still come back in some cases. It would help to know which type of leukemia you are asking about. In two other questions you mention that this is your child. This would make ALL (acute lymphocytic leukemia) most likely. We are doing very well with that type of acute leukemia these days. Most children do attain lasting complete remissions.
