i have worked in the medical field since 1973,and the disabled, the chronically ill, the mentally and physically handicapped,or special need people are exactly as you described, sometimes their own families abandon them, especially older ones. you need a lot of compassion, be able to endure heartbreak, keep an open mind and heart to their well being and not yours.these people need everyone of us in someway or an other. you seem to have the heart for it, you can go to school for nursing, become a companion through home health, work in state institutions,or be a volunteer. schools sometimes has teachers aide positions where you assist the disabled there. there is hospice-that is hard and is not for the emotionally weak. you assist the terminally ill through the different stages of death . and , nobody's favorite, nursing homes.you can't solve their problems, but, you can help them to achieve their fullest potential.it may be the hardest job you'll ever love. on their behalf for your question,God bless you |
