I am a borderline diabetic and my doctor has given me a list of foods I can eat and also which to stay away from. Basically, I have to eat foods that do not have a high glycemic index - but there are ...
Yes. It's the alcohol that does it. Since you asked this in the diabetes section, I'll volunteer that beer if FULL of carbs and will spike your blood sugar.
As Sandi said beer is a carb drink it can lower ur blood sugar as well, I have seen it happen. It is like this how does hard alcohol liquor get straight to your blood stream to get you drunk? Well I see the beer working in the blood stream causing your blood to get thinner.
The first answer is partially wrong, although beer is full of sugar and carbs, the alcohol in it actually lowers your blood sugar. So as being a type one diabetic myself, if i drink i always need to have snacks with me. And yes, alcohol DOES thin your blood. My mom has a rare blood disease and drinks beer quite often, she asked the doctor if it was harmful and he said no that it actually helps her if she drinks in moderation because it thins her blood.
