Why is my blood sugar only high in the morning?
My fasting blood sugar on my FreeStyle Lite meter ranges from 112-130 in the morning. The rest of the day it is fine rarely over 140. Is this a problem if it is high in the morning? I have NOT been diagnosed with diabetes, but pre-diabetes. I had an antibody panel done and it's not in yet. I have a bmi of 18.5, so I am not overweight. What could be causing the high numbers in the morning? :) there is no way I sleep walk at night. And I drink over 100 ounces of pure water per day, so that can not be it.

It could be due to what is called "The dawn phenomenon" or sometimes called a "liver dump", this occurs when your blood sugars are dropping during the night (usually between 4-6 a.m. and your liver in response to that releases stored glucose to compensate for what is happening. The result is higher glucose readings in the morning after you awake. The way to check to see if this is happening is to set your alarm clock at around 2-3 a.m and see what your blood sugar is doing and check your blood sugar to see if it's dropping, if it is keep something to eat (carbs, around 15 grams) to help raise your blood sugar a little bit to prevent your liver from releasing that stored glucose which would result in higher readings in the morning. i wish there was a better way of handling this but that's the best solution that's available at this time.

Are you eating anything right before bed? If you are, that would cause your sugar to be higher in the morning. You should keep track of what your sugars are in the morning so you can let your doctor know. You may need a small amount of insulin overnight. During the day your sugars may still be able to be controlled through your diet and exercise.

Do you think it's possible that you're a sleep walker and you eat while you're asleep? Or, maybe you don't drink enough pure water...
