I threw away the box of benadryl, and I dont remember the dose for my 2 year old, can someone help me please?

My 3 year old was on amoxicillin for 7 days when she developed hives over her entire body.Naturally I rushed?
her to the pediatrician who prescribed prednisolone and benadryl. i wont give her the prednisolone because of its nasty side effects and the benadryl doesnt seem to be working- how long does a reaction like this usually last for and should i take her to an allergist or a dermatologist tomorrow?

It can last up to about 2 weeks - especially if you haven't given her the steroid. She has had an allergic reaction to the amoxicillin - what more would a derm or an allergist do - you know now what she is allergic to (sensitivity can develop over time) - the only thing they would give her would be a steroid. Steroids tend to only have "nasty" side effects if taken for a long period of time - a short course RARELY has any side effects. All the benedryl is doing is keeping her from itching - it won't reduce the hives - the steroid will - without hte steroid her body is just going to have to heal on its own (about 2-3 weeks)

Ok so this is not in answer to your question however I am 28 years old and have never had a reaction to amoxicillin before. Just like your daughter I was on my last dose of Amoxicillin 500mg and woke up yesterday April 27th with hives in 3 spots on my body. I went through everything that I may have changed (soap, food, lotion) and came up with everything is the same. I hope everything goes ok with your daughter I just wanted to let you know that someone else is out there feeling how you are.

ive had hives before and it lasted about two days. i rubbed limes on myself (and suprisingly it didnt hurt) and make her drink a lot of water.

The hives can last a few days. Just keep an eye on her and make sure she isn't having any problems breathing or vommiting non stop. If she is generally feeling ok other than the hives just give them time to go away. I am highly allergic to all cillins. Make sure she does not take any cillins in the future because with each exposure the symptoms only get worse and she could have problems breathing the next time. It may take awhile for the Bendryl to work. They also have benedryl spray if she is itching at all. My daughter has suffered from severe allergies since we brought her home from the hospital and she is now 6 and has outgrown a few, but still so many. I remember how scary it was the first few times she broke out in hives from head to toe. I didn't know what to do. The benedryl takes several doses before you noticing it working. make sure you follow the right amount because too much can make them irritable and not sleep. She should be sleepy after giving it to her. Aveeno oatmeal bath is really good for hives.

i think 12-24 hours it should go away (if you've stopped giving it to her). but you should go to an allergist as soon as possible.
