Blown-in Insulation Allergies?
I recently renovated an older home and put in blown-in insulation inside of the walls and in the attic. My tenants (who were present in the home before the renovations) are now complaining of allergic reactions to the insulation. How likely are these reactions to cause allergic reactions? I do not know the type of insulation, but I do know that it was brought in bags, and blown in from the outside. It is possibly cellulose. My tenants tell me that the mother has had "infections" and has been "choked up" since the renovations were ongoing. They (and their doctor) have blamed the insulation as the cause. The mother was on IV in the hospital recently. The renovations were completed in August. The house has no air ducting; it is heated by electric baseboard, and has no form of air conditioning. The bathroom has a large fan to draw out moisture.

i don't have an answer to the probability of them having allergic reactions, but i would suggest contacting the manufacturer (whatever company installed it should know). if they don't have specific allergy information, you could perhaps get the breakdown of what the contents of the insulation are and work from there.
