Depends on where you live. In California, it's against the law to smoke inside most office buildings. I'm not asking you to move to Cali, I'm just saying check your local and state laws. If it's a big issue for you and it should be because you are entitled to breath clean air, take charge of the situation, ask the smokers to relocate or talk to your boss and ask if they can designate a smoking area (away from your office). |

Ask them to smoke somewhere else; if that doesn't work find some equally annoying habit to impose on them everytime they smoke outside your door. For example; do they hate a certain type of music? Play it really loud every time they smoke outside your door. If that doesn't work? Spray lysol in thier direction every time their smoke interferes with your work space. Sometimes I think smokers don't understand or care how obnoxious thier habit is. If they want to kill themselves with cigarettes it's thier choice, but do they have to kill the rest of us too? |

Tell them that you are a nonsmoker and it makes you uncomfortable breathing in their smoke. They need to find a different place to congregate. You can get lung cancer too even though you are a nonsmoker. The number of nonsmokers with lung cancer has increased significantly over the past few years. |

Ask if you can switch to a desk that is further away from the door. Tell them that you have asthma and this effects your breathing. They should be understanding! |

You can ask them to move. You have the right to clean, healthy air. Most smokers, if asked nicely, will be more than happy to accommodate you.
If they have nowhere else to go and you're afraid of making people angry, you can always get a small air/hepa filter for your office. That will help but I think asking them to smoke further away from your door isn't mean. You can also hang a basket or bag of candy or gum outside of your door with a sign saying "Thank you for not smoking near my office." |

Just tell them to move along or install a smoke detector just inside your door and when it goes off they will soon move on |

You can always request to be moved further from the door and change seats with a smoker so they are closer to the "smoke zone". the smokers are already banished outside so the drift back is beyond there control. Have your desk moved if at all possible or get a smoke eater fan for your desk. Smokers are already limited to specific areas and are not in control of the way the wind blows the smoke. Try to remain calm and see what the office manager can do about your proximity to the smokers area. |

I have this same problem. My cubicle is near the entrance and the smoke drifts over into my cubicle. I'm thinking of getting an air purifier. These people should definitely smoke farther away from the door. They smoke right up against the freakin' door! They have no consideration of others. |
