Dad and contacts?
*sigh*
ok, so i'm 13 years old, and I've had glasses since 6th grade.
I also have extremely bad vision [-6 in both eyes]

anyway, i've been talking to my parents and my mom said I can get contacts, but my dad on the other hand, is like we'll get them in the summer.

I honestly wouldn't have a problem w/ that, but I kinda wanted contacts for my 8th grade graduation in 1 month...
Responsibility, or cost isn't the problem. The problem is, my dad still thinks contacts are bad for your eyes. He said he tried them when he was younger, a LONG time ago, and his eyes got all red. I said, first of all, contacts have improved since then, and also, my dad was allergic to contact solution. Most likely, I am not allergic...hopefully.if i am i wont getem
atleast 50% of my friends wear contacts, and i've explained to my dad.
even my optometrist said i could try them!

anyway, any advice? or experiences
i'm definately gettting them in the summer, probably.

thanks! best answer=10pts.

I got contacts 2 years ago when I was 13, and love them tons better than glasses. First of all, I have soft contacts, and they're sooo comfortable I always forget that I'm wearing them! They're great because they don't fog up when you walk inside or outside, and take me just a few seconds to put them in or take them out.
What I did to convince my dad to let me get contacts was that I went online and did some research, then printed out some facts that I found about how great and easy they are to use.
Good luck!

I had the same problem with my mom she didn't won't me to have contacts but i play a ton of sports so she caved in. But you can tell your dad that now a days their is different types of solutions for people who's eyes respond differently. You can also see if you can convince your dad to take you so he can see how much things have changed and how his eyes and your eyes are different, most parents listen when it comes from a professional point of view. I hope this works!

With an eye power of -6 myopia both eyes, you may certainly go for contact lenses if there is no irritation or allergy etc.,.
As you are planing to go for contacts some time later(ie. 8th grade etc.), you may have to get your vision verified again before going for the contact lenses on your eye specialist advice only.
Now a days as the technology has quite enormously improved, there may not be any apprehension for your dad!

I agree with MusicGen: have your optometrist talk to your dad if you can. Also, optometrists should give you trial lenses before they have you commit to a certain type. Maybe you can get some trial lenses for your graduation and show your dad that they are not bad for your eyes at the same time.
