Why is everyone so against suicide?
If someone is so miserable and in so much pain. why do we want them to live in such a condition. if we humans are so compassoate. wht don't we help them be free. Especially christians always talk about how kind hearted they are. but they are the ones to let the people suffer.People that do not think of suicide apparetntly never really suffer so how would they know. we put down our beloved pets when they suffer, why dont we do it for our human loved ones. is it because we are selfish and don't want to miss them and don't really care if someone is suffering

Vino
people are against suicide because it is seen as selfish.

when the suicidal person finally kills himself, his whole family and all of his friends suffer, not him. this is why it is selfish.

and the bible says that anyone who commits suicide will spend eternity in hell.

the reasons why should be obvious, to the people who you leave behind suffer the worst, if you think about others as well as yourself, how about the pain they suffer? (nothing in this life is worth taking your own life for), in the brackets is my answer.

There is a difference between suicide and euthanasia.Euthanasia is the practise of ending somebodys life when it would be merciful to do so,like you said"we put down our beloved pets when they suffer" thats euthanasia.Suicide is taking your own life because youre depressed or cant cope or whatever.Personally im against suicide and i have a very low opinion of those who commit it.As far as im concerned its taking the easy way out

I think in the situation of someone being in a vegetative state for the rest of their lives deserves death. The terminally ill deserve to have a humane death instead of a long drawn out one. If you are killing yourself, because of depression, I think you should reconsider. There are a lot of professionals that can help depressed people.

I feel slightly qualified to answer this question because I have suffered, and I have thought about suicide.

I often wondered why they put animals out of their misery, but not humans. I would never have the courage to put an animal or a human out it seems so inhumane, but I understand why they do it with animals.

I believe this could be a reason why we don't do it with people: People are on this earth for more than just to eat, have fun, sleep, and provide company. Animals are on the earth for those reasons, so when they are in lots of pain, it is better to put them out because they have nothing else to live for. Whereas people do!

People need to learn and grow and become the best person they can. When someone commits suicide, they are giving in to the pain instead of growing from it. I am not judging those who did commit suicide because I don't know what they were experiencing and what I would have done with that. But, I am just saying it is giving in.

I am going through hell right now, but I have to stay and live through it because when I do (if I do...ha ha) I will be happier for it. If I make it through this healing process, I can truly find the first sense of happiness I have ever known. That is important to me.

I don't want to leave this earth having never grown or experienced true happiness. Suicide does not necessary set them free because they never got over the pain.

If you believe in any sort of after-life, these people are going to take that pain with them.

I am so glad I am still here pushing through and persevering. I know I have so much potential to be AMAZING, and I want to reach that.

We don't put humans out because they have more to live for than animals. When humans are in pain there is still growth to be had. Plus humans can get over the pain, and move on to a happier life. The same is not true for animals.

Because it's ANOTHER liberal solution that doesn't work. It goes with the territory, so to speak, with the abortion/pro-death culture.

LIberals not only want others to do everything for them, but they also want an easy way out of everything. Maybe that pain you mention might awaken them to the fact that they're wrong, and they might change instead of seeking a drive-thru remedy: using suicide like using an aspirin.

Get real. Suicide? It's the stupidest thing ever, and the ultimate cop-out.

David S
well Christians are against taking life all together whether it be some Else's or your own. putting down animals is "moral" because they do not have a soul in the way humans do.
personally i believe, if say a teenager is depressed and attempts suicide they will be acting hastily and not thinking about it, however a terminally ill cancer patient should be allowed if they choose.

Terrilee B
yes i totally agree with you , but you have to think about the family's and friends and how upset it makes them to know that the person was so upset that they had to kill themselves, i think both the family and the suicide person are oth selfish but in different ways. The family are selfish for putting there loved one through all the pain they go through and the suicide person for putting there family through a lot of pain.

Because life was meant to be worthwhile. That's it. You go through the rough times and something spectacular can come out of it. Forget those devout Christians and their perceptions. Suicide may seem like the only option for people, to be freed of everyday troublesomes, and maybe it WOULD free them, but they would seriously be missing out on some good times. We put down animals because I guess they are not our equivelent. It's not because people are selfish (well, some are) it's because most people want the best for people. Life is beautiful. If they just understood that, if they just got in touch with themselves. That's why there is help...

It's a coward way out. As brave as it may sound, saying I quit isn't really stickin it to the man, it's saying I'm too weak to meet your demands. If you feel like like you don't deserve to live, think of it this way, you don't deserve the easy way out.

I believe if it's emotional pain there is always help and answers. But I believe if you have a terminal illness and suffer pain horribly you have the right to die. We do not let animals suffer, why let humans? A person suffering should not have to commit suicide, they should be allowed to be gently euthanized with love and caring. I don't care what the religious community believe. I believe God understands and forgives anything. After all, isn't God suppose to be all loving, understanding and forgiving? The religious community believes that a person who commits suicide goes to Hell. I don't believe in Hell, and even if I did, I believe God would always understand. And to who ever said animals do not have a soul? How do you know that? Someone told you so? They also told you we have a soul? Again.. how do you know that? We don't know diddly squat.. believe yes.. know for sure.. no.. not until we're there will we know.. or not know. Depending on the truth.

jedimasterlink53
first you need to define the difference between suicide and euthanasia. the one thing both have in common however is:
in both cases it is murder.
you talk about christians and i am 1. the bible states in the 10 commandments: you shall not kill. problem here is that the greek difines this as you shall not murder.
so here is the whole thing on a scale and everyone is his own judge:
in holland (europe) euthenasia is lawfull but it is used in most cases as an answer for controlling the influx of senior citizens and or criticaly ill (cancer etc.). hitler did exactly the same and becasue of it an entire nation is brandmarked because of it. today however there is the notion that there is nothing wrong with euthanasia.
your live does not belong to yourself. it was given to you and even if one does not believe in GOD this is still true because your life was given by ones parents.
therfor no-one has the right to take something that does not belong to him/her self.
while euthanasia is a sorry excuse for murder, as is abortion, suicide is a cry for help. allthough many excuses are given for suicide none of them address the real issue. in any casesuicide is a running away from preceived unsolvable problems. not only is suicide devastating it also is in no way right. think about it: suicide affects a lot more people then the one who kills him/her self. it affects family, friends, classmates (if in school), co-workers and actually the entire community. among all forms of dying suicide is the single most selfish one simply because the person doing it thinks only about self and never about friends, family etc.
the only difference that is to be made is this:
people with a mental illness because they are realy NOT in their right mind. people on medication such as prosac (specialy men are influenced by this drug) that are supposedly control ones stae of mind.
my brother in law killed himself while on prosac and it is is a proven fact that this anti-depressent has mostly negativ effect on man while it is great for women.
the other thing is: if you claim to be a christian (not neccasseraly you, the writer of this threat), then you must understand that, if you murder yourslef, you WILL spend eternity in hell. that however is only if one believes.
sincerely, jedimaster

I believe there are two instances where it is okay - terminal medical illness and terminal mental illness. By terminal, I mean all treatments have been tried and failed. The difference between the two is how long it takes for the physical clock to run out.

By all treatments for depression, I mean ongoing therapy, a couple SSRIs, Welbutrin, an SNRI, a couple TCIs, a couple MAOIs, a couple mood stabilizers, supplementing with Lithium, an antipsychotic or two, some off label meds, and ETC. I don't believe in one or two depressions being justification for cashing it in. That's too easy. That's going without a fight. That's devoid of responsibility or caring about the impact the choice has on those who love you. That if far different than spending many, many years struggling to overcome an untameable illness. I have bipolar, so it's not like I don't know a little about this subject.

laplandfan
I sense you are a relative of someone that is very ill and you feel may be suffering?

It is not up to us to decide for that person but for the person themselves to decide. With good pain relief then maybe the pain can be sorted if they are ill/dying?

I understand your statement that if we put down animals that are suffering then why not humans> Fair argument.

Euthanasia should be allowed so long as the person themselves has opted for it. Leaving a living will can help to achieve this depending on which country you reside in.

As for suicide as a form of dealing with depression then i do not buy it. With correct treatment there is no place for suicide. Also think of the damage it does to families and friends of the person that had killed them-self?

I

lisab
In my opinion I feel that some medical suicides are reasonable. If that person is of sound mind at the time of the decision than I think it would be okay. It is really hard to say since I haven't had to deal with one within my family.

However I think sometimes for others who think they are suffering for other reason (finances, drug addiction, etc), they may not have used all option to obtain help. A lot of people have trouble asking for help.

In a desperate state of mind maybe these people don't see all available options to them or realize what they are really about to do.

In the end yes it is there life and there choice however I think alot of things that people suffer from when considering suicide can be help over time.

Suicide is stereotyped as being something only depressed, sad and lonely people do, and it is not.
Some people commit suicide because they want control over when they die. They are then able to say goodbye to their loved ones and have a celebration of the life they HAVE lived.
People choose to die for many reasons, but not ALL them reasons are negative ones.
Death is a sad thing regardless of how it happens, but to be able to make your own choices on hoe when and where you want to die is a very powerful thing.
If you felt you had achieved everything you wanted and had benefited many people in your life and everything was cleaned and cleared, why wouldn't you want the chance to say, 'This is it. I'm done,' and let others carry on?
Does that really sound like a BAD thing?

â–ºAurora Borealis
Because there is always a chance that with help they can be salvaged from this horrible situation they are in and start to enjoy life a little.. it is very selfish to waste life like that considering other people are born with debilitating illnesses and unavoidable deformities etc. that they manage to live with... if it is assisted suicide by euthanasia or w.e. then i think it i s a little more acceptable because it is a joint decision

YahooAddict
They don't understand what we are going through, but you still have to admit we are selfish because of sthe hurt we will cause to loved ones left behind. That said, sometimes the pain is just to much to bear and there is only so much one person can take before they feel there is no other alternative.

scentless_apprentice02
I understand the point you are trying to make. However, I believe everybody has a purpose and reason to be on this earth.

You need to think and search for your purpose. Don't give up, good trhings may come your way and to others way.

Find your purpose and reason before you think about giving up.

If you are talking about physical suffering, such as Cancer or some other horrible, painful and degenerative disease, then yes; I agree 100%!! Suicide should be a legal alternative. The decision should be made with careful consideration and professional evaluation from Medical and Social professionals and at least one blood relative. But it should be available. Why DO christians want to let people suffer? Answer me that anyone?

we were given this amazing consiousness we call life. it is nothing less than AMAZING. the wonders of life, the beautiful nature, so much to live for. if we were meant to just throw it all away over some emotional wreckage, we wouldn't even HAVE the emotions that are wired in our brains. the compassion, and inner strength.

Are you talking about physical or emotional pain? If you mean emotional pain, suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Now if you're talking about assisted suicide for terminally ill people, that's another issue totally.

Most people who have depression and suicidal thoughts don't actually want to die, they just want their life to be better..something in their life is getting them down, such as bullying, abuse, worried about the future etc. Things that can be changed and helped if they searched for help hard enough. I was suicidal for 9 years and did some really stupid things, take overdoses, throw myself down stairs, lay in the road, once nearly threw myself under a train until some guy stopped me. When my parents found out how bad I was, they forced me to see a doctor and now I never get them thoughts, or very rarely. People can be helped.
Usually it's not something a person wants, but they see no other option.
Plus would you really want a close friend or family member to die? Even if they wanted to?? Wouldn't you rather help them, and stop them from feeling that way. I was glad to be helped, it's usually a cry for help...that you try to deal with yourself.
