Do i have a mental disorder?
I am a 15 year old girl.
I often think that my friends don't really want to be friends with me. I feel like they just feel sorry for me. I also start fights with them for no reason. I like the drama i guess??
I have times where i am very depressed and in the same day happy.
I have to look at my self every time i walk past a reflective surface. Lately i sleep all the time. its the only thing i really want to do. I dont get along with my family mostly because everything about them annoys me. I have times when i cut and dont eat. I think i might have two personalities. Sometimes i want to be really perfect and act "preppy". and other times i want to be "emo" and punk of w/e you want to call it. I cry over very stupid things. Do you think i do??

You seem to be exhibiting signs of bipolar disorder, manic depression, and are possibly on the borderline of sociopathic.

I would go see your counselor or a shrink. They can help you work out your problems.

Don't fall into the trap of medication. I really believe all mental problems start with the self. You may need help overcoming them sometimes, but I don't think a pill can solve all of your problems.

I think you should take a ste back and evaluate yourself. Don't let your friends get your insecure or anything. Be yourself, be happy and find things that you love about everyone around you... you will be much happier that way.

Par 4
You are bi polar, its a mental conditional but it doesnt mean your "mental" if you can follow me on that.

Dont worry, I have the same thing, but mine is so mild that I dont require medication, you might have to.

All my friends understand the condition I have, and when Im really depressed and they ask me whats wrong I just say "nothings wrong, ill get over it, dont trip." But if Im in my hyper stage, everyone else will join in. I guess its the group of people I hang out with too that makes it easier to cope with.

But look at it this way; theres never a dull moment in our lives. Theres ALWAYS something going on.

Sounds like you may be Bi-polar.

I think you have the symptoms of a bipolar person. I have known and had a couple of bipolar friends in the past and their symptoms were very similar to yours, but at the same time you may just be going through a faze being that you are still so young. You should visit this site to get more information.

you are 15 it is typical behavior. I did that it is hormones. Not some made up disorder by the FDA and pharmaceutical companies. Get a bible and read it. problem with teens today they is they listen to songs and take them seriously. You have your moods and that's all it is a mood. as far as fighting with your friends for no reason. there is a reason you just block it out. you fight because you think they feel sorry for you. you can manifest you own thoughts and make your self become come what you think. It is just hormones and you go through it all your life. It isn't some metal condittion. that was made up. people make excusses for every thing now days. the turth in the matter is we get depressed and we get happy and we get sad and we get angry. no drug in the world can truely fix it. get into the bible. read it and see your mood change. birth control may help with yout mood. a low dossage. it not mental it is normal. and dont let people convienc eyou togo on a antidepressant. It has the same effects as lsd and make no true differnce god doesn't want us to take those pills. it comes from the devil.

Sounds like a fairly normal teenage state of mind. Many of us go through these sorts of things. Some of these things pass some linger longer.

It may help to talk to your doctor, up to you. Best of luck.. .I wouldnt wana be your age again so much stress.

that´s called puberty, not mental disorder

gambitgrrl
Sweetie...they are called hormones!

Sounds like normal teenage angst to me.

Along with changes in your body, our brains actually change as well.

"Puberty represents a time of chaos, when emotions, appearance and internal chemistry are changing like at a frantic pace. And so, it is no wonder that this developmental period is also time of high anxiety that occasionally can lead to the all-too-common teenage angst as well as panic and suicidal tendencies.

Now, researchers at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center in New York City have found the switch that transforms quiescent children into raging, hormonal teens. The team reports in Nature Neuroscience that allopregnanolone (THP), a chemical that normally helps soothe the activity of brain cells in adults and children by binding to receptors that inhibit accelerating electrical activity, actually becomes an antagonist during puberty."

The whole article is at the link below! Interesting stuff!

But if you are concerned, you should talk to someone.
Your doctor, a counselor at school, or ask your parents to find a counselor for you. Tell them what your feeling and maybe they can help you get through things a little easier!

Only a physician can diagnose you properly, but these symptoms sound exactly like the ones I used to have. My therapist told me that it was depression and low self esteem since i was constantly fishing for attention and the mirror had become my friend. You also sound like you have some anxiety. What you need to do is tell o your friends and tell them you are just going through a rough time and f you ever get angry at them they shouldn't find it offensive. Secondly your only 15, this can definitely be just hormones or mood swings ( trust me ). But if you really think its not normal, i suggest you go to a Private therapist of school counselor. Good Luck

I'm 17 and at your age I had the EXACT same problems. You feel like an alien in your own home and in school. You feel like you're actually crazy.

But trust me, it's just being 15. I know adults try to say "it's just your hormones" all the time, but to be honest, it really is.

Two years on I've stopped cutting and feeling paranoid all the time, and I realise that I just needed to settle down and become comfortable with myself.

15 is a terribly hard age. Everything is so intense.

Just hold on and be patient, 'cause in a year or so you'll wonder what this mess was all about.

xx!

I can relate, I was the same way, I had different sets of freinds , depending on my mood. Ihad a different set of freinds, i loved my family but there were times I just wanted to be away, it is a time in your life where you are learning about yourself and who you are.It is not that you have a mental disorder, of course i am no pro at that but i think this will pass for you, you are not the only one going through this

David K
I think you should talk to a doctor for advice , you just need to think positive and get any problems off your chest .

Insane
I think your problem is you're 15, sounds kinda like the typical teenage stuff, it wouldn't hurt to talk to a councelor, but your not crazy.

Does this only happen when you are on PMS? If not then you may have a mental disorder, but do not get discouraged. 90% of americans these days have at least one. This is including me.

Miss Brittany
Well I think that everyone is a combination of many disorders, but you may need to see a doctor about yours, someone else thinks you may be manic-depressive. See a doctor. One of my best friends has an extreme case of bi-polar aka manic-depressive where she feels states of high and enjoying life and other times when she feels depressed. This has caused her to ruin many relationships with friends, but she cannot help it. Everything neutralizes when she takes her medicine. So please see a doctor. They will tell you everything you need to know and if you need meds. Please take the medication if it is perscribed. This will save relationships and you will be happy. Bi-polar is a chemical imbalance, so the meds will help you stabalize. Don't worry many many people have this too:)

I am a mom of 4. I took my daughter, (12 1/2) to a psychologist and had her evaluated. That is what you need. Can you talk to your parents? An older sibling? School counselor? Also, call a teen hotline. You may have bipolr disorder..completely controllable! Good luck, sweetie....you are depressed. I will keep you in my prayers.

I'm not exactly sure.
I used to be the same way, but I never went to a doctor or anything like that about it.
I used to talk to the social worker in my school, because I didn't like my guidance counselor. I did help a little and she recommended me to a psychiatrist. Even though I never went, I think if I did it probably would have helped.
I thought that shrinks were for crazy people, but then I found out that the majority of the girls in my grade have gone to one.

I don't want to guess what you have because I am not a doctor, but they could diagnose you with being something like borderline or bipolar.

This probably didn't help you, but just find someone to talk to. Someone who you can trust, and someone that can understand you. Don't bottle things up. It will only make things worse. Trust me. I know.

I am not qualified to give you a diagnosis but it does sound like you have some emotional issues going on. You have described symptoms related to depression. Teenagers do usually have their ups and downs but I donot believe that's going on with you. The way you are acting out may be a way of asking these people for help and they probably donot have a clue. Because you are having difficulties with your friends and your parents, I think perhaps you would really benefit from talking with your school nurse or counselour. Then maybe they will be able to help you talk with your parents with you and that way you will not feel bombarded or cornered in. If you have someone that you really feel comfortable with, try talking with them. Either way you really need to bring this into the open in order to get the help or treatment that you probably need. Cutting is very dangerous as you already know. The main reason people cut is that it makes them feel that they are releasing their emotional and or physical pain. The really bad thing is, it becomes addictive, dangerous, and it leaves ugly scarring. If you think that you would like to speak with someone other than some one you know, there are telephone numbers listed in the front of the book that can help. If life gets really unbearable please call 911 and they will get help for you immediately. You could go to the nearest emergency room. The staff is very understanding and helpful. Sometimes depressed persons will feel so down that they could care less, sounds like you are headed in that direction or you are already there. You have taken a big step by asking questions, now please ask for medical help with a crisis intervention specialist. They will not judge you. Take care and take the steps to help you begin to enjoy life again.

You sound like me a lot when I was a teenager. Turns out that I was Bipolar 2. Whether you are or not, it sounds like something serious is going on. After all, you engage in self-harming behaviors once in a while. These need to be treated. Talk to an adult that you trust about how you feel and explain that you need to talk to a professional, such as a therapist. Just because you are a teenager and going through puberty does not mean that you aren't suffering from something. You can get help and feel better.

You sound like you are very depressed. You should go see your doctor and tell her exactly what you wrote here. Your doctor should refer you to a therapist. A therapist may have you talk for therapy and include medication.

Science has now found out that depression is a chemical imbalance. There's not enough of some chemical in the brain. It's not your fault, any more than diabetics are at fault for not having enough insulin.

There are all kinds of therapists and all kinds of medications. You may have to try a few different medications before you find the one that works for you. Likewise with therapy, if you chose that route, there are all kinds of therapists. It's important to find the right one for you. Sometimes you get the right person at first, and other times you have to try a few different ones.

I know you must be suffering. Depression is very uncomfortable. I think most people who cut do so to relieve the internal discomfort. Better to have a physical pain to take their mind off it. Go see someone. There's no reason to suffer when you don't have to. Life is hard enough!

Ash
talk to a parent or gaurdian about your feelings. you may need to talk to a professional...its nothing to be ashamed of...
you may just be PMSing.....

No. You're just going through adolescence. You should go to your doctor and talk to him/her about depression, because you could just be depressed. Instead of asking people online, go talk to your parents about seeing a psychologist or some other kind of doctor.
