I would say AIDS is going to be the deadliest. It has been more than a decade since its discovery and every second someone dies from this illness.

Bubonic Plague or TB or HIV. The last 2 are killing millions of Africans AND Americans every year. The plague killed off a half of the world's population in the 1100s-1500s

I would say alot of the diseases are deadly like aids, sars, ebola virus, cancer, the plague it would depend on the era of the disease but in stats cancer has killed the most people out of all the others combined because if you add up all the different kinds of cancer versus deaths from them, it would be the deadliest.

I was going to go with religion - taken already - but then only if you accept the idea as virus thing (memes).

Heart disease is the biggest killer, buy you probably mean some infectious disease. If you skip diarrhea (many kinds of infections), then it would be malaria.

The leading cause of death in most western countries is Ischaemic heart disease. It occurs when there is a blockage in the coronary arteries, which provide the only source of blood to the heart. The event that causes the death is commonly known as a heart attack.

Initially there is sudden severe narrowing or a closure of either the large coronary arteries and/or of coronary artery end branches by debris showering downstream in the flowing blood. It is usually felt as angina, especially if a large area is affected. The narrowing or closure is predominantly caused by the covering of atheromatous plaques within the wall of the artery rupturing, in turn leading to a heart attack (Heart attacks caused by just artery narrowing are rare).

The most deadly disease would have to be Ebola or its relative Marburg. These disease cause an incurable form of hemorrhagic fever. The body liquefies to the point of deterioration. The body then starts to bleed from any orifice on the skin i.e. nose, mouth, ears, etc. The entire process ends when the body "crashes and bleeds out" this is when the intestine sloughs out of the body and black vomit is released. It can be contracted in every way, it even has turned itself into a flu like strand. This disease has no cure or vaccine

The deadliest and fastest killing disease are Bacteria infections caused by several ways. For example, in the mouth and on the tongue of a Komodo Dragon, Varanus komodoensis (Southern Indonesian Islands), the large lizzard the disease caused by a single bacterial infection is the most deadly know to the modern world.

http://www.angelfire.com/alt/aaawebsite/lizardinfo.htm

That lizzard swipes its tongue back and forth and if a deer should pass, it can catch the leg of a deer with its tongue, yes its tongue, and leave a slime of bacteria on the deer's leg. Then the deer dies within minutes and the monster goes and finds it and eats it up.

Another example is a disease called Minosis Extope, that is caused by a bacteria that was developed during WW 2 as germ warfare. It was produced on a remote island off the coast of England. That Island today is never even visited because the bacteria still survives in the soil and kills humans and all animals within minutes after infection which passes thru the membrane of the skin when contact is made.

Read about these and the Lizard Ive listed the website for the lizard.

Influenza - hands down.

it wasn't an epidemic, it was a pandemic. AIDS, Cancer, even the black plague couldn't catch up to it's death toll.

1918: deadliest disease event ever

The most deadly disease event in human history was the1918-19 flu pandemic, which hit a world population exhausted by the First World War.

This flu pandemic killed over 40 million people. The majority of those who died were healthy young men and women in their mid teens to early thirties. That was the last time the world had seen a flu virus that targets those in the prime of life - until today. The latest bird flu - H5N1 - has worrying similarities to the 1918 bug.

Over 40 million people died during the 1918 flu pandemic. Many more were seriously ill.

The results of ranking the leading causes of death are subject to the cause categories used. The broader the cause categories used, the more likely they will rank among the top leading causes of death.

According to the estimates in The world health report 2004, there were 57 million deaths in the world in 2002. The broad category of all "noncommunicable diseases" killed 33.5 million people; communicable diseases, maternal and perinatal conditions, and nutritional conditions killed 18.3 million people worldwide; and external causes of injuries killed 5.2 million people.

When analysing at disaggregated level, the following are the leading causes of death:

No. Cause Estimated number of deaths (in millions)

1 Ischaemic heart disease 7.2
2 Cerebrovascular disease 5.5
3 Lower respiratory infections 3.9
4 HIV/AIDS 2.8
5 Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease 2.7
6 Perinatal conditions 2.5
7 Diarrhoeal diseases 1.8
8 Tuberculosis 1.6
9 Malaria 1.3
10 Trachea, bronchus, lung cancers 1.2
