mayny things there are really nasty germs that can be transmitted through simply using the same toilet. you can get crabs, acne, bacteria and a really nasty rear end....why would you use one without the protection. its going out doing the nasty with a prostitute with no jimmy...thnk theres plenty of risk and many bathrooms are for the public so any bum can go in there easyly. so be carful watch out for those unwanted bumps on your rear end |

Crabs for one and you don't even want those critters. Totally embarrasing & it hurts and a doc will chuckle and give you a lecture telling you to learn how to straddle. |

I remember watching 20/20 or something like that, and they found that kitchen counters and doorknobs are far more contaminated than toilet seats. Always wash your hands for 30 seconds with warm soapy water after using a public toilet, and cover your hand with a towel when you open the door. Believe it or not, when you place your purse on the floor of a bathroom, it can pick up e-coli, etc. Gross... |

It's virtually impossible to catch diseases from toilet seats. Whatever microorganisms might lie on the seat's surface very rarely infect or contaminate the skin on your thighs and buttocks. The possible, but unlikely, exceptions are crabs (pubic lice), gonorrhea, and skin-to-skin contracted STIs, such as herpes. STIs are mainly spread by having sex and/or genital contact with an infected person. Because toilet seats are not major culprits in spreading disease, paper or plastic seat covers offer little more than peace of mind. If it makes you feel better, or if the seats are visibly dirty, then continue to use them, but it probably doesn't make sense to have an accident rather than use an uncovered potty. |

Hi Sweetest Lady 74, I had this question myself back in 1990 and everyone told me the answer was “No” but since then I’ve been in the medical field and am currently in medical school which has given me an opportunity to learn more about the pathology of diseases. First its important to know that there are what are known as Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD’s) and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI’s). STI’s are more easily transmitted through the mucous membranes of the genitals and mouth. Mucous membranes differ from skin in that they allow certain pathogens into the body. This is one reason that the probability of transmitting many infections is much higher from sex than by casual contact such as touching, hugging, shaking hands and sitting on toilets. Many diseases can be passed when fecal particles from one host are introduced into the areas where mucous membranes are present including the genitals and mouth. Amongst the more common causes are: water that has come in contact with feces and poorly treated before drinking; food that has been handled with feces present; poor or absent cleaning after handling feces or anything that has been in contact with feces which would include sitting on toilets, touching faucets, flush handles and/or door handles that contained the infected feces. However very rare and depending on the time span, it is possible that a person may still be able to contract an infection leading to an STD by sitting on a toilet previously infected by germ viruses, bacteria or parasites. These are some of the diseases caused by Bacteria: •Chancroid •Chlamydia •Donovanosis •Gonorrhea •Lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) (Chlamydia trachomatis serotypes L1, L2, L3. See Chlamydia) •Non-gonococcal urethritis (NGU) •Syphilis •Amitahb These are some of the diseases caused by Viruses: •Hepatitis B. (You should know that: Hepatitis A and Hepatitis E are transmitted via the fecal-mucous route, not sexually; Hepatitis C is rarely sexually transmittable,[3]and the route of transmission of Hepatitis D is uncertain, but may include sexual transmission.[4] [5] [6]) •Herpes •HIV/AIDS •Human papillomavirus (HPV) (Certain strains of HPV cause genital warts) (Certain strains of HPV cause cervical dysplasias) which can lead to cervical cancer/anal cancer) •Molluscum (MC) •Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus These are some of the diseases caused by Parasites: •Pubic lice a.k.a "Crabs" •Scabies I hope this is helpful to you. |

Crabs. And that is all. So if your significant other ever gives you anything and claims they got it from a public bathroom, the who** is lying. :-) |

How many questions can there be? |
If the person had a contagious rash on their bottom. If they had verrucas on their derrière (it can happen) Sometimes crabs/lice hiding under the plastic rim. Impetigo Scabies (usually if prolonged contact with the skin) The germs are not transfered to your genitalia but to your butt from sitting on the loo. So diseases which are blood-to-blood contagious won't find their way into you, unless you have open cuts on your butt/thighs. It's worth noting that the most germy places you have to be wary of are on the inside lock of the toilet, the toilet flush, toilet roil dispenser, sink taps, soap dispenser and the handles walking out of the doors. Once touched with your hands the germs from these places may find their way into your mouth or food. |
