Is one who is infected with hepatitis-c required by law to disclose this information to their employer?

What's wrong with the medical authorities in your city?
They should counsel victims of serious infectious problems to help them with social, employment and other interactive activities.
Legally? ask your doctor ... and also get advice on how Hep C spreads. Make sure you follow those guide lines, even though your co-workers don't understand why.

If your job provides the opportunity to spread the disease then you should tell your employer regardless of legal requirements. Or maybe you're one of those people who thinks it's entertaining to pass on serious diseases to others.

Not To Serious
NO.

Depends on the job and the state. If the person is "probible" to spread infection then yes. The health department should have been contacted by the physician in charge. They will make that determination and will be helpful in educating you or whom ever has this. Also they (the health department) should inform your/their employer.

NO..that is why our medical records are private. HIPA law.

If you work where you have the possiblity of bleeding like building things etc..it would be your decission to share it..but an office job? not necessary to disclose. Resturant job where your a server? not necessary..its only transmitted Blood2Blood..its YOUR choice..and NOT required

i think it depends on the state, and type of job.

for example: if you are in the food service industry, this might prove to be a problem, but just about anything else shouldn't be a big deal.

No, it is illegal for an employer to ask, and you are not obligated to tell. however, if an event occurred, where transmission could have spread, it is their ethical responsibility to let involved parties know.

No, you are not required by law to disclose whether or not you have hepatitis C (HCV). You cannot catch HCV from working with others. It is only transmitted by blood to blood contact, as Bayla has so aptly stated. People with HCV are also not precluded from any profession, so it is possible that your doctor, nurse, child's teacher, insurance agent, banker, and many others are HCV+. HCV affects over 4 million people in the US, and many people are not even aware that they are infected because they may be asymptomatic for many years, even decades. If you're not sure if you have risk factors, check the website below and get tested. Many people were infected by blood transfusions, tattoos, pnuematic vaccinations given by the military, or a one time IV drug use experiment years ago. Best wishes.
