How long can a child run a 105 to a 106 fever without being alarmed?
We were at the ER for over 4 hours today and the trip was a total loss no help was given just to go home and let this virus run its course but he is only 5 and only weighs 45 lbs and his fever will break but never get below 102 and has spiked to 105.5 again
pls tell me where you from, so that i can advise you. i want to help.
!st you have to do is to sponch him on the neck , arm pit with ice bag. give him lots of water and if possible child vitamin C every 1 hrs. give the child 500 mg of vit c every hr. that will help
give him warm bath and keep them from getting chilled if it lasts over night and he/she has diarreha and vomiting for longer then a day with it and fever doesnt go down with tylenol then proceed to er, some viruses take atleast three days before they break and while u give him/her a warm bath give them something warm to drink it maybe measles ya neva know if not it will make them feel warm and sleepy and we alllll need sleep when we are sick :) btw if they are not confused or delirious with the fever it should break soon just watch for the other signs night
105 is too high YOu can only have it that high for a short period of time.
Put him a a luke warm bath, give him tylenol and call his doctor's answering service.
I know that its hard when your child is sick but I would call the nurse line if you have one where you are located to get advice. If you get no help use your best judgment try baby Tylenol, a luke warm bath to break the fever, a small sip of warm salt water to break the chill if he has one. Good luck to you.
I think it would depend on the child. The main thing is to keep him hydrated. If it keeps comeing up try to put him in a cool bath not cold it should bring it down some.I would see my pediatrition when they opened but,if it got to 105.5 verey much tonight I would take him to another ER.
For days! My son had a fever up to 105 for 7 days, intermittently responding to Tylenol only. (allergic to motrin!) Took him to the doc on the 2nd and 5th day. On the 5th day, the ER doc said , "watch him two more days, I bet he'll be better." You know what, he was! but, he was so sick with the fever, he actually was hallucinating and was 'seeing the light!!!!!' I'm not kidding! He spent half the time in the tub with lukewarm baths. He was 7 at the time. He never went below 101 and only down that low for an hour or so. So, when in doubt, give your doc a call. The pediatric hospital I took him to did no blood tests, the doc was so comfortable with his diagnosis, I trusted him, and my son got well with no treatment other than plenty of fluids, Tylenol, and lots of TLC. Good luck I know it's hard, but if he starts throwing up, or looking dehydrated, he may need IV fluids, cause with his temp high, he's burning them off quicker. So, I'm sure they told you what to let him drink, and what to watch for.
THAT IS CRAP.MY SON HAD SEIZURES WHEN HIS TEMP WAS AT 105.THEY SHOULD OF GAVE HIM SOMETHING TO HELP BREAK THE FEVER,,START TAKING HIS SOCKS OFF AND PUT A T SHIRT ON HIM SO HE DON;T OVERHEAT,,,KEEP GIVING HIM TYLONAL SO THE FEVER GOES DOWN,,,ON THE NEWS THEY HAVE CLOSED SCHOOLS IN A STATE AS ALMOST ALL THE KIDS ARE HOME SICK WITH THE FLU...THIS FLU THATS GOING AROUND IS TERRIBLE .THE FEVERS SPIKE UP AND IT LAST 1WEEK OR MORE..CALL A HOSP IN YOUR STATE AND ASK IF THEY HAVE A 24HR NURSE AND ASK HER ADVISE,,,,,,GOOD LUCK AND I HOPE YOUR BABY GETS WELL SOON,,GOD BLESS YOUR BOY AND YOU FOR BEING THEIR FOR HIM,,,
You need to put him in a cool bath and give fever reducer and liquids. Why are you on here. Use cool water and pour it over him slowly and get it cooler and cooler. This will get the fever down along with meds. Then get him dressed and give liquids. Do this again if you have to in an hour. Put cool compresses on his head, back of neck, tummy and back as often as possible while awake. When he sleeps, you sleep and be ready to go at it again when he wakes up. Keep the fever reducer in him every 4 hrs. Don't let it go, this is key to keeping the temp down. Then cool bath and liquids. If he stops drinking get him to the ER. Get off here and do it.
Was it 105 while he was in the ER? I would take him back (or perhaps to a different hospital if that is an option). He needs to be closely monitored. Young children with high fevers sometimes have seizures.
If his fever was'nt that high at the hospital take him back! I always get concerned when my children get that high of a fever. You could also try to break the fever. Have you tried tylenol? Cool cloths? A bath in tepid water?
I was told once by an RN that a fever is a good sign because it is the body's way of fighting infection. It is however important that he be monitored. Make sure that he is not lethargic(unresponsive) and make sure that he is drinking lots of clear fluids. If you can't get him to drink he needs to be in the hospital as dehydration is the most common risk with fever. As for convulsions, yes young children do sometimes have them due to fever (Febrile convulsions) however if he has had high fever before with no problems it is unlikely that he will have them now. Monitor closely though, you know your child best. If your gut says something is wrong then take him to the ER. Good luck, take it easy. I'm sure he will be ok, you however will probably earn a few gray hairs. My prayers and regards to you.
Go back to the ER or better yet, go to another ER! A fever of 105 or 106 should not be trifled with. Even if the cause is "a virus," something has to be done with temperatures that high. Any higher, and you risk serious brain injury or death. If this child was healthy before, this is a problem because normal people with normal diseases do not have fevers this high. Does the child have neck stiffness? Any seizures?
