I don't think so, once a person has chicken pox they build immunity to it

anonymousenlightenedgirl
Yes a person can get chicken pox twice. It usually only happens when the person had a very mild case.

Shingle is not chicken pox. It is caused by the same virus, but is not chicken pox. Shingle occurs later in life and only someone who has had chicken pox can get shingles.

uppyr
Yes, but very rare.

jesseica
It is rare but a person can get chicken pox twice. Especially if they had a mild case of it the first time. They can also get it after getting the immunization for it.

No, the disease happens only once because it creates a lifetime immunity, kinda like when you get a month long or year long immunity from a cold or flu.

Once you catch chickenpox, the virus usually remains in your body for your lifetime, kept in check by the immune system. About 1 in 10 adults will experience shingles when the virus re-emerges during a period of stress.

Yes especialy if they dont get a strong dose i think, ususaly adults get shingles though

No. You can only get it once.

No. It is a virus that your body will create an immunity to if you already had the virus.

Yes, but it's unusual. Depends on how bad you had them originally and also on the strength of your immune system now. Usually the virus will present itself as shingles in an adult and not "chicken pox"

Once you have chicken pox, you are considered immune; you will not have a serious infection again, but you may have a mild infection (called a breakthrough infection). Generally, if the virus becomes active again, it will not result in chicken pox but can cause shingles, or herpes zoster.

Stray Kittycat
As far as I know, you don't get it a second time. However, after having it as a child, you can get a flare-up of its aftermath known as shingles. The chicken pox virus is related to the herpes family and in some people can lie dormant in the body and resurface as shingles.

lpachal
As far as I know, you can only get chicken pox once, but as an adult to get chicken pox, it's more dangerous.

?
The short answer is no, but there are some minor genetic variation in various strains of Chicken Pox, and if you are unlucky enough to be exposed to two sufficiently different variants then, yes, it is possible you can get it again. Unlikely, but possible.

It doesn't happen often, but it has been known.

?
An old wives tale, that incidentally I fully believe in, is that the chicken pox virus can lay dormant for years after you have had it. Any traumatic experience in later life causes 'shingles' which they claim are a form of chicken pox. As I say, I believe it.

janellethechef
Yes. I had chicken pox twice. I was 3 or 4 the first time and about 7 the second time. My doctor explained to my mother that this is possible because there are different strains of chicken pox, and if you've had one of them, you usually build up an immunity to that strain - but if you are exposed to a different strain, you are still susceptible to it, and may get chicken pox a second time.

By the way - the second time I had chicken pox was MUCH worse than the first.

yuhaskay
yes if you did break out bad the first time i have a friend who had it twice
