If your father has blood sugar that high it could cause serious problems. I don't know how your father is so I cant really predict what will happen.I know from my experience that it depends on the person weather serious things will happen. My father is also diabetic and there have been times when his sugar is at 900 and he should have been dead at 380 but he was in a diabetic coma. I have also known people to go into diabetic coma at 290 or 300 but every person is different.I would suggest you and your father talk about it and also talk to your doctor to find a way to keep his sugars in control

This is EXTREMELY high. The normal range is 90-120 so 380 it wayyyyyyyyy to high. It can cause many serious health issues in the long run. It also depends for how long this has been going on. It can cause him to go blind in the long run. Definitely need to see a doctor and get it under control. Encourage him to change his diet. Definitely want to cut on the carbs and sweets. Get him to see a doctor ASAP. If i were you i would drag him there.

if your dad is a diabetic then he should know how much insulin to take. Don't panic this happens. I am a type 1 and a high like that is common , It happens to me once and a great while. About once a year I'll hit a 300 mark for no reason. I know how much novolog I need to cover that.
If he is not a diabetic and you are asking because his lab work shows that, then he is a diabetic and his doctor will help him. When I was diagnosed a few years ago mine was in the 600's.
Just don't panic and don't let what others say worry you. You wouldn't want your dad to be in the 300's every day but once in a great while is common.

you just control your father's diet and start a gel of aloe-vera which you cant get directly from market bcz that's not pure at all just you hav to feed a 40ml gel daily in morning and night before one hour of each meal after a month of regular use alloevera will automatically help to reduced the diabities or might be finished of but u have to take care of the diet.

High blood sugar causes some immediate symptoms which you may have noticed, very thirsty and tired, have blurry vision, and have to go to the bathroom often, your blood glucose may be too high. Very high blood glucose may also make you feel sick to your stomach. But there are long term effects of having blood sugar high for long periods of time. Over time it can ruin your kidneys and cause blindness, it also ruins your circulation causing numbness known as neuropathy. Diabetes is a mean disease and it should be taken serious.

I'm assuming your Dad knows he is a diabetic? He needs to call his doctor and get some instruction on getting his sugar under control. He's definitely going to get in trouble if he doesn't. God love ya for caring so much.

Hopefully someone would give him some insulin and it would come down to normal. Your dad must be a diabetic. This blood sugar requires aroun 10 units of regular or humalog insulin.
He probably will be a little thirsty.

greeneyes
well first he needs to call his doctor then he needs to take his blood sugar meds. and keep a check on his blood sugar every 30 to 45 min until it is at the level his doctor wants it at.

Let's put it this way -- when my wife's blood sugar was not quite that high last year (about 280), she had a stroke because the blood was too thick to go through the small blood vessels in her brain.

Typical blood sugar ratings should be between 90 and 140, depending on variables like how much you've had to eat and things like that.

Your dad needs medical attention right now, and needs to start talking with his doctor about getting on regular treatment for diabetes. There are very effective oral medications now to manage blood sugar, but blood sugar levels that high can lead to serious, life-threatening consequences.

I HAVE HAD MY BLOOD SUGAR UP TO 650 & YES METERS WILL GO MUCH HIGHER...IT'S NOT GOOD TO BE ON THE OUTSIDE EDGE OF 240 ---ONE THING THAT WILL HAPPEN IS SLEEPINESS......& OF COURSE DAMAGE TO ORGANS IS POSSIBLE.....EITHER SULFONYL UREA PILLS & METFORMIN OR LANTUS OR OTHER INSULIN WILL BE NECESSARY....ALSO LOW GLYCEMIC VEGETABLES ARE NECESSARY....LESS BREAD---YOU CAN EAT A TON OF GREEN BEANS-----EVEN ANY REGULAR BEANS HELP TO REGULATE BLOOD SUGAR......

itsyouandmebb
glucose in excess harms cells. heart disease and other vascular disease develops. dehydration and ketosis may develop more quickly.

lynnwestfall@sbcglobal.net
it means his meds aren't working or he just doesn't do what he should. it is possible to be that high. My husband is every once in a while

380 is pretty high for a CBG (Blood sugar) reading. He should contact his doctor since he may have to have his Insulin dose adjusted or alter his eating and drinking habits. 380 is high but I have had patients with levels above 700.

Deirdre O
He would be dead. That is way to far out of range to even be a reading, in fact I don't believe any of the monitors would go that high.
