Is the dentist reccommending unnecessary treatments?
I haven't been to the dentist in about 9 years (out of fear from the last visit). I reccently went and am being recommended to receive a debridement. When he showed me the x-rays, however, I did not see any buildup and I have 0 cavities (never have had any). Can't I just get a normal cleaning? He also said that my two front teeth need to be crowned because of a fracture from gum to bottom of both teeth. He said that the crowns can't be matched to my teeth since they are not uniformly colored (have spots) and therefore also need a bleaching. There is no pain or sensitivity in my front teeth, so is this really necessary?

Listen to what the dentist says and be a good girl. They know best.

Just don't go back to that dentist go to another dentist and see what they have to say. There are some dentist who just want your money and it seems as if that is what that dentist is after, YOUR MONEY!!

go for a second opinion some of the things u have said make sense but others don't, so i am not sure if it is a case of u have misunderstood or the dentist is trying to make some quick bucks at ure expensive

It would not be unusual for you to need a soft tissue management program (debridement, root scaling, etc) after 9 years of not seeing a dentist. Calculus and tartar builds up below the gum line and cannot be removed with a normal tooth brush. This is the cause of gum disease. You can have no decay and still lose your teeth to gum disease. If you have concerns about the fracture and necessary crowns on your front teeth call your local endodontics (root canal specialists) and ask if they would give you a consultation or second opinion before beginning and crown treatment. I would not bleach or whiten your teeth until your gum condition is taken care of. In some people this can cause sensitivity.

get a second or even third opinion! I too didn't go to the dentist for like 7 years cuz of the fear! And then recently i went to four different dentists for opinnions and to choose the right one!

It is not clear that if you feel you do not have any dental problem, what in the first place made you visit the dentist that you did not do out of fear in the last nine years? Just for the heck of it you walked into his office without appointment??? Is this dentist without any patients? You would do a service to flash his name and address so that others may also walk in and enjoy.

I would request to see the xrays where they determined the fracture before any of that. Get a second opinion, it is your right.

Get a second opinion and then you decide.

Get a second or even third opinion. Not all dentists are reputable.

If you haven't had a professional cleaning in 9 years, you got off easy. A debridement will get rid of all that buildup of plaque on your teeth - places where the brush doesn't reach. Most people can't see stuff on x-rays without being trained. If your dentist has an intra-oral cameral, you can probably see it.

If you have a vertical fracture, your teeth will eventually need to be treated. If you don't get it done, they will either be lost or need a root canal. It's up to you if you want them to match or not.

If you still don't trust your dentist, get a second or third opinion. The fact is, many dentists view the same teeth differently: one may be more conservative and believe in a "wait and see" type thing, while another leans towards "fix it before it breaks or hurts". Does not mean either is wrong or trying to cheat you, just a different philosophy.
