That's a really difficult question to answer with so little information. A lot depends on the person. When my husband had his surgery to remove a cancerous tumor in his lung, he was in the hospital for almost two months. The doctors wanted him to stay in the hospital for at least another month, but my husband refused to and told the doctors that he was going home. To this day I think that if my husband had stayed in the hospital a day longer, that he would have given up and died, but by coming home, he was in a place he felt comfortable in. But if your question is whether or not it's sane to stay in bed instead of seeking treatment, a person who is in denial might stay in bed, because he/she can't deal with their sickness.

it just depends on the person, i believe the more active you are the better off you will be. first it keeps your mind off of your problems and the exercise is also good for you. when i get tired i just sit down and rest or lay down and take a nap. I'm a fighter and I'm not giving up until its my time.

i have had both colon and liver cancer sometimes when you are going through chemo you feel awful then you need to lay down but when you can you try to carry on as usual you sure dont give up ..73 yrs. young

Hi, my grandpa was just diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer last monday, and he went crazy in the hospital. It's sad that it wasn't caught sooner but he really had NO symptoms what so ever. Infact they rushed him to the ER thinking he had a stroke, but after a cat scan, they found 4 large tumors on his brain which had spread rapidly from the lung. So, they of course kept him for about a week - and for that whole time he was complaining how he hated it. He's not a grouchy old man at all, he's only 63. But, he is an energetic guy and wouldn't give up bugging the doctors, so they let him out, but said they weren't planning on letting him leave for another 2 weeks. I think he's a lot happier at home though, all the familiar surroundings, and people - even the familiar smells can be therapeutic. For now he's laying in bed trying to get used to the nasty medication he's on, and all we can do now is pray and be with him as much as possible. I'm a true believer that his treatment will work a lot better when he's comfortable and feeling safe at home. Sorry for the long story!

It all depends on how they feel. A person of that age may want to stay up and about as much as possible. If they feel really ill they will either go to bed or the hospital.

Simmi
You would be in the hospital if they could treat it there. Usually they don't do it in the hospital and yo go home. Even if you have cancer, you might be independent for quite a while and not need to stay in bed.

Not really it all depends where it is and how the diagnoses is. There is a man living down the road from me he has full blown cancer and was out plowing the snow here in KY the other day, so I guess it all depends
