Depends on what is causing the sore throat. If it is simply because the air is dry running a vaporizer or humidifier can help. I find a vaporizer at night is very helpful. My doctor told me that throat spray is very bad for you although I can't remember the reasoning. If the cause is strep though, nothing will help but a doctor and some antibiotics. Symptoms of strep can also include nausea and headache. If you think it may be strep see a doc asap.

Fresh grapefruit and aspirin. A little cough syrup at night.

make garggle with colgate paste it works

I don't know if you're old enough for alcohol, but try mixing honey, lemon juice, and rum --or-- just add rum to the theraflu mix. Boil it or heat it up in the microwave and drink a cup at night before going to bed and the next day your throat should feel so much better. 1 cup and your pain is gone. Good Luck!

Gargling mouthwash 2 or 3 times a day helps me and it also makes me feel better for some reason.

el magnifico

Gargle with warm salt water.

Drinking hot liquids like tea and if you dont like tea, i just drank coffee and that helped tons!

Kat O
fresh lemon- however you need to look at what is causing the sore throat..

gargle with salt water and drink lots of fluids.

use cough drops

~ Eat lemon or drink lemon juice (if you can't handle that, get not ripe oranges)
~ Use throat spray
~ Gargle cayenne pepper and water
~ Hot apple cider
~ Drink iodine (it is disgusting, but works)
~ Chew on cloves
~ Drink pickle brine
~ Eat peanuts
~ Eat foods with garlic
~ Gargle with salt and water
~ Drink pineapple juice
~ Put cough drops in hot tea
~ Put vapor rub on a towel and put it around your neck before going to bed
~ Eat some cherries or cherry jello
~ Warm milk or HOT CHOCOLATE
~ Popsickle
~ Gargle hydrogen peroxide

PS. Hope you feel better! :)

This won't "cure" a sore throat, but my dad's a MD and he suggests that I gargle with very warm (almost hot) and very salty water. It tastes disgusting but it really helps. You'll feel better afterwards. Do it like 3 times a day and you'll notice the difference.

warm water and salt

To cure a sore throat, you have to rest your throat. The problem is most people with sore throats are prone to coughing. And coughing makes a sore throat worst.

Why does one cough? Because their system or throat, is dry. So what you need to do is find a way to reduce coughing and to get rid of your dry throat.

I suggest the following things that must be done together to eliminate your remedy. In order for this to be successful, you must have a Chinese Grocery Store nearby, if not, refer to #4.

1.Get lots of rest and drink plenty of fluids
2. Stay warm
3. Have Dried Fig/Apple Soup. You can google this remedy by searching the author "Grace Young" and soups that remedy coughing. (if you cannot find it, drop me a note and I'll email you a link, it's not accessible to me at this moment)
4. Eat lots of rice porridge. This helps soothe your throat. The problem with most cough medicines is that they have alcohol in them which causes your throat to eventually dehydrate or dry up. They are good in assisting you get rest by knocking you out, but bad in that you wake up with a dry throat.

Drink lots of hot liquids- avoid anything cold. Cold drinks may feel good because they numb the pain but hot liquids will help speed healing. Even your water should be warm- not cold- until your throat feels better. Also avoid rubbing your neck if your glands are swollen - it will make it worse. Rest your voice and get some rest!

I sip a little bourbon and try to swallow it as slow as possible. Then drink a small glass of lemon juice, with honey dissolved in it. Repeat as necessary. It works for me.

2 tbl spoons honey

you dont.....but Sucrets pwn for helping to soothe them

tea with lemon

Hot Dr. Pepper

Honey with lemon squeezed into it. Just eat it like that. (Or if you are really daring and don't mind lemon, cut up the lemon into little chunks and put it in the honey, then eat it.)

gargle with warm salt water for about 30 seconds two to three times a day. or when it starts feeling scratchy.

chew a piece of ginger...it really helps. it may burn a little but you'll feel better do that until your throat stops bothering you..it gives you temporary relief...but if it's a few days and it's still not gone make some ginger tea using the actual root, with some star Annis, and Cinnamon-sp(i don't remember how to spell it but you get the picture)...you have to grate the ginger on a grater to get it onto small peices.

I gurgle in venos cough syrup it works for me

warm saline gargles

If your sore throat is caused by Streptococcus, your family doctor will probably prescribe penicillin, taken by mouth for 10 days. Another antibiotic, called erythromycin, can be used if you're allergic to penicillin. If your sore throat is caused by a different bacteria, your doctor may prescribe another type of antibiotic.

Antibiotics don't work against viruses. Infections caused by viruses usually just have to run their course. Most symptoms caused by a cold-type virus go away in a week to 10 days.

Symptoms caused by mono can last for 4 weeks or more. If you have mono, your doctor will probably suggest that you get plenty of rest and that you not exercise too hard. You can take acetaminophen (brand name: Tylenol), ibuprofen (brand names: Advil, Motrin, Nuprin) or naproxen (brand name: Aleve) for the headache and other aches.

If a sore throat is a symptom of hay fever or another allergy, your doctor can help you figure out how to avoid the things that trigger your allergies. Or you may need to take medicine for your allergies.

Constantly sipping warm water.

Other then your common medicine. Honey-Lemon Tea. Don't talk at all.
