Has anyone had desensitisation treatment for Hayfever?
How effective was it and did you have any side-effects? I've just had my first injection today.
There is a new treatment they are researching where a patch is stuck onto your arm with special worm eggs.
They then burrow into the body and something about them cures hayfever and they rave about the results with no side-affects.

An acquaintance tried many things but acupuncture finally cured the problem. After the initial course of treatment, he now has just one session per year and hayfever is just a memory.

Yes, I had desensitation shots for hayfever. It took me 9 years to get through the shots. It has helped tremendously. I used to be house-bound from mid-August to mid-September. Now it barely bothers me and I can enjoy the outdoors. However, the shots took two years to start helping me, so stick with it.

allergy immuno-therapy! yes! i'm in my third year and i am so glad i've had it! i used to be so allergic to grass pollen that i had to take triple doses of antihistamine AND stay indoors during the entire month of June, and now i only use the occassional dose on really bad days. the only side effects i've had is bruising & swelling at the injection site, and once during my bad season i got ever so slightly wheezy, but my albuterol took care of it right away. my cousin & brother both did about 1-2 years and they have some improvement, but as they did not complete the therapy it's not as dramatic as mine. my little nephew even started a couple months ago and hasn't had any reactions.

I had immunotherapy for grass, birch, dustmites, and ragweed and unlike the other people, I hardly had any improvement. My side effects (giant red welts the size of softballs at my injection sites) became mentally draining. The allergist couldn't figure out why I kept getting them especially since I was at my maintenance dose. With every shot we cut back on the amount but I still got them. I ended up quitting the shots this November after two and a half years because it just wasn't worth it anymore.
Now, I have nothing against immunotherapy. I've seen it do great things for people... it just had something against me I guess. I hope it works well for you!!
