Could it be possible to be allergic to milk and not to cheese?
I have experienced some rather severe "reactions" to food. I have explosive diarrhea, abdominal pain, gastrointestinal problems. I have already gone to a gastroenterologist who has ruled out the standard irritable bowel, colitis, etc. She even ruled out a gluten allergy..which to be honest I really thought it was because when I'm on South Beach Diet, which removes all breads, pastas, etc I have no digestive issues. I had been "issue-fee" for several weeks, but all of a sudden I had a soup and salad at Olive Garden and BAM, within 20 minutes the issues were back...full force. I found out there was cream in the soup. That was the only thing I could think that I ate differently (Nope, I didn't eat any breadsticks). On South Beach, I eat a lot of cheese, so I'm thinking that lactose intolerance can be ruled out. But, I also haven't been drinking milk like I used to.

Did they test for Celiac DIsease? That is different than a gluten allergy. Celiac can cause all the symptoms you are saying and symptoms can come and go (which is confusing!)
Untreated Celiac can cause secondary lactose intolerance also and when Celiacs often are diagnosed and go on the Gluten Free diet, they are able to (in time) eat dairy again.
For more info, see the links I post or feel free to email me directly.

I had this same problem. It was only with a certain pizza that had cream sauce. People put dairy in so much I had no idea. My sister gave me something called BeeTabs. She found them at www.candy4diet.com . They work.Click on the our products tab and then click on BeeTabs. Not only do I not feel as sensitive to eating out my allergies to airborne allergens are non existent. I bought a 3 pack and give them to my daughter who has horible seasonal allergies. Check it out.
Good luck

It's called a developing allergy. You have a sensitivity to dairy, not an allergy. Your able to tolerate cheese because of how it's made and what it's ingredients are. Milk is more of a pure substance so to speak. It is very common.

it is possible that you are sensitive to the mold growing in the cheese,or are intolerant to the high fat content of it.Cheese is extremely hard to digest.I am allergic to yeast and just the smell of cheese makes me have headaches and nausea.

Not all cheese is made with cow's milk. Some imported cheese is made with goat's milk. I am lactose intolerant and lucky for me I do not like domestic cheese. For some reason I can sometimes have a piece of domestic cheese and not become ill as I would with a half of glass of milk. Since you ate out and experienced this it may not have anything to do with lactate. It maybe related to MSG. This is something which makes me deathly ill. Olive Garden is not authentic in their cooking and is a chain, therefore there is a good chance they use MSG.

Yes, you can be allergic to cows milk and not cheese!! My 7 year old son is allergic to cows milk. He is not lactose intolerant, he is allergic to a certain enzyme in the cows milk. He is able to eat cheese, ice cream, yogurt, etc. because this specific enzyme is destroyed during the processing of dairy products. We only drink soy milk without any problems. What I would suggest is switching to soy milk and start by eating some cheese. If you notice that you do not have any problems with this, try another item such as ice cream. Keep adding dairy products and see how you react to them. You just might need to omit the cows milk from your diet.

Good Luck, hope this helps!

Do you do a lot of cardio exercise? I have the same problem, I can eat cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt as much as I want. If I drink milk or eat ice cream I'm in the bathroom a few hours later or actually not even that long. This started happening to me after I started running a lot and then eating a lot too. What I was told is that I increased the rate at which my digestive system processes food, the problem is milk takes a lot longer to digest. I gave up on milk. I still try once in a while with cereal, just makes me gas-y now that I don't run as much. I wouldn't worry about it, I eat cheese everyday now instead of drinking milk.

I can't drink milk or ice cream, but I can eat cheese and yogurt. I don't get diarrhea, but I start to wheeze cough and then upchuck.

Food Allergy can be very selective. It is possible that you are allergic to milk or cream and not cheese. Food Allergies can really be a problem because many a times, we just do not know what could be a part of the food we eat outside. -
